Cryptomeria Japinoca Vilmoriniana has many uses in landscaping gardening. Perfect for providing coverage with its dense mass of short needles, the conifer is also known as 'Vilmoriniana'. The Japanese Cedar is part of the Cupressaceae family and the tips of its needles turn a reddish purple hue during the winter time. The shrub likes well drained moist soil and takes to chalk, sand, clay and loam soils. Cryptomeria Japinoca Vilmoriniana can also grow in areas of partial shade or full sunlight, its versatility serving it well for North, East, South and West facing positions in the garden. The conifer acts as a nice clean backdrop for positioning colourful bedding plants and hardy alpines in front of it to create interest and texture amongst a rockery or border. The bushy profile of the conifer also provides shelter for other plants needing a partial-shade environment to flourish in.
